On October 25 2012, The Catweazle Club celebrates its 18th birthday in East Oxford. Since our humble beginnings in the snug of the Vicky Arms in Jericho, we have been lucky enough to witness literally thousands of performers from across the pantheon of human creative expression. If you’ve not been down before, what took you so long? If you have, see if you can spot yourself in this here movielet! It’s a bunch of photos cut to a radio 4 documentary on the Catweazle Club. This is the short version.   The full 18 minute version...

Catweazle’s 17th Birthday!

Yes Most Dear, this October 20th, Oxford’s Catweazle Club celebrates SEVENTEEN YEARS of running our beautilicious weekly performance space. Averaging around 15 different performers each week, x around 48 weeks a year adds up to well over 12,000 individual marvels which we have been blessed to witness over the years. ‘Open Mic night’ does not do justice to the Catweazle Club. The Catweazle is in a league of it’s own. There is no need for a mic (personally I hate PA’s) . The audience is wonderful, both attentive and supportive. If you are just there to enjoy the show, or about to perform, I guarantee you will not be disappointed! This is THE BEST laid back, fun loving, amazing acoustic club in Oxford. I love playing there and have met lots amazing people. Just the thought of playing Catweazle on a Thursday night brings a big smile....

Your quotes about Catweazle Club – Will Tattersdill

“It’s actually all because I needed a new Wii controller so that I could play Mario Kart properly. If I hadn’t set out for it, I would never have encountered, in the trudge back from Gamestation, my old friend, Steve. I hadn’t seen Steve since school, years ago and in another city: we’d never been especially close, but he was the son of an old walking teacher of mine (thereby hangs a different tale). An artist, violinist and freelance bike repair man, he has since got involved in the bakery trade and now,...

“My name is Sarah and I want to convince you that Catweazle saved my life. I attend the university here in Oxford but am originally from Southern California, where I live for about half the year. Upon arriving in the UK I found myself unable to cope with the weather, the exchange rate, the homesickness, and separation from the lover I left back home, and as a consequence found myself in a very dark and troubling place. I was self-destructive and disordered and losing hope that I could find any solace when I discovered the hallowed...

Your quotes about Catweazle Club – Ana R

“IN THEIR STRANGE HEARTS In their strange hearts a god melted a honey of music, words, dance In the golden cave they do open fearless their shy mad dreams While a thousand colours tail peacock looks amazed at the wild sacrifice of their voices and flesh. Whispering eyes, wide mouths On their burning faces the night’s fire is never enough” Ana...
